Yellow spotted pipefish

Scientific name : Corythoichthys polynotatus

Pipe fish, long up to 16 cm. It usually crawls on the bottom. Yellow and black lines, yellow spot along the sides. The colour pattern on cheecks and sides includes horizontal lines and a network pattern, more or less clear. Snout of medium lenght, red tail. When living amongst seagrasses, colour pattern can be more green.
There is a big confusion about many Corythoichthys species, many of which are very similar to each other. This can be distinguished from Corythoichthys schultzi for the snout lenght, from Corythoichthys sp. 1 and Corythoichthys sp. 3 for the body colour pattern.
Male incubates the eggs stuck along the belly, protected by a lateral skin expansion covering them.
