Yellow-edged lyretail

Scientific name : Variola louti

A big fish (maximum length: 85,0 cm), with a remarkable difference between the juvenile and the adult form.
Juveniles are small and elongated, their bodies horizontally splitted in three parts: a reddish dorsal one, a white ventral one and a brown intermediate one, with many white dots.
The adult individuals are big, with a voluminous and lyre-shaped tail; their body is brown, with red tones on their sides and belly, turning to bright yellow at the fin border, and with many blue dots.
It can be usually found in clear waters, at depths below 15 m, on islands and offshore reefs, rather than on continental reefs.
It mostly feeds on fish and crustaceans.
