Yellow box fish
Scientific name : Ostracion cubicus (adult)
Large box fish, adults are light brown with blue spots surrounded by black spots or a black edge. Larger adults have a protruberance on the upper lip. The juveniles, more short in shape, have a bright yellow colour with black spots. 45 cm. Large adults, with a protruberance on the upper lip, can be confused due to this charachteristic with a rare species, Rhynchostracion nasus, having a low ridge on the back and dull spots.
Associated organisms The juveniles are often (not always) associated with stands of branching Acropora corals.
