Wolf cardinalfish

Scientific name : Cheilodipterus artus


About 18,5 cm long, the adult is very similar to Cheilodipterus macrodon, but the interband sections are brighter. Juveniles show a black spot on the caudal peduncle, with a yellow border.
It can be seen in sheltered lagoons and lagoon patch reefs, from 5 to 20 mt deep, and forms small aggregations in caves or above some branching corals.
It feeds on smaller fish.


Habitat: Back reef, Coastal bay, Lagoon, Reef flat

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
