Waminoa sp. 2
Scientific name : Waminoa sp. 2
Small (3 mm) acoel flat worm, shape similar to a hearth drawing. Bronze brown colour, with a distinctive bluish-white ring around the margin. Yellow spot on the tail.
Found on back reef, reef front and external reef.
Similar to Waminoa sp. 1 and Waminoa sp. 3, is distinguished by the white ring.
Associated organisms We observed and photographed it on the hard coral Plerogyra sinuosa, in a colony giving the tentacles a spotted appearence. It can be associated with the zoantid Palithoa, sea urchins (Echinoidea), the nudibranch Phyllodesmium kabiranum.
It feeds on tiny crustaceans (copepods), diatoms and particles collected on the coral mucus.
The brown colour is due to the symbiosis with unicellular algae (zooxantellae or diatoms).
Habitat:
Back reef, Reef external slope, Reef front
Distribution:
Indonesia
