Urchin shrimp

Scientific name : Stegopontonia commensalis


Compressed and elongated shrimp, fit for living among the urchin's spines. Black or purple colour with 3 longitudinal white lines. 3.5 cm.
Similar to Periclimenes cf. rectirostris, it cannot be confused, due to the flattened and elongated shape.

Associated organisms
Always in association with the sea urchins Diadema spp., Echinothrix diadema, Astropyga radiata. It lives on or amongst the spines, never on the body.


Habitat: Back reef, Coastal bay, Lagoon

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
