Transparent commensal shrimp

Scientific name : Periclimenes psamathe


Long rostrum with 6 dorsal spines, transparent body with longitudinal red stripes. A typical red spot on the abdomen hump. Very long antennae and claws, but difficult to see because transparent. 2 cm.
If the red lines and, more important, the red spot on the back, can be seen, then it is not difficult to identify. Otherwise similar to many transparent shrimp species (Periclimenes sp.).

Associated organisms
This is a commensal species with many different hosts: gorgonians (Muricella sp.), black corals (Anthipates sp.), hydroids (Aglaophenia cupressina), anemones (Heteractis spp., Actinodiscus spp.), sea pens (Pteroeides sp.).


Habitat: Deep reef, Reef external slope

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific
