Tomato grouper

Scientific name : Cephalopholis sonnerati


Big grouper (lunghezza massima: 57,0 cm) whose colour changes accordingly to the distribution: adults in Indian Ocean are red, sometimes with small whitish blotches, while adults from the Pacific Ocean are light red with many brown spots on head, body and fins.
It can be seen in deep lagoon reefs and steep outer slopes; it can be also found in coastal waters with a rocky bottom. Juveniles can be usually seen near sponges or coral heads, while adults live at moderate depths.
It feeds on small fish and crustaceans.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Reef

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
