Tiger cardinalfish

Scientific name : Cheilodipterus macrodon

A rather big fish (maximum length: 25,0 cm), it shows a dark base color, with bright and visible stripes on the sides. Juveniles show a black blotch on the caudal fin, which becomes diffuse with age. In its adult stage, it looks like the adults of Cheilodipterus artus.
Rather common on the outer reef, from 4 to 30 mt deep. It can be found in caves and ledges of clear water lagoons and seaward reefs, up to a depth of about 40 mt, usually solitary in midwater. Juveniles swim solitary or in small groups, while adults swim in pairs or small groups comprising many pairs.
It's a predator, and feeds on smaller fish.
