Swimming crab

Scientific name : Charybdis sp. 3


Swimming crab, the last pair of legs ends with a fin. Large spiny claws. 4 lateral spines per side, 6 between the eyes. Marbled borwn or reddish colour, parallel horizontal ridges across the carapace. Carapace lenght 2 cm. In our area we encountered 3 more Charybdis species, Charybdis cf. acutifrons, Charybdis sp. 1 and Charybdis sp. 2, all different by colour. Thalamita and Portunus swimming crabs are more common on sandy bottoms, and usually have a larger number of lateral spines.
