Swimming crab

Scientific name : Charybdis cf. acutifrons


Large swimmer crab. The last pair of legs ends with a fin. Large and spiny claws, 4 lateral spines (on each side), 6 among the eyes. Brown colour. Carapace lenght 6 cm. In our area we encountered 3 more Charybdis species, Charybdis sp. 1, Charybdis sp. 2 and Charybdis sp. 3, , all different by colour. Thalamita and Portunus swimming crabs are more common on sandy bottoms, and usually have a larger number of lateral spines.
