Striped bumblebee shrimp

Scientific name : Gnathophyllum americanum

Blunt headed shrimp, almost without rostrum, as cut off. The major claw is long almost as the body. White colour with brown-black bands, claws and legs with orange markings. Up to 3 cm.
Not to be confused, in our area, due to the blunt head.

Associated organisms
Usually observed in association with echinoderms, like sea stars, sea urchins and sea cucumbers. It seems that this association is only occasional. We observed it always in association with the pencil sea urchin Heterocentrotus mammillatus.

Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Reef external slope

Distribution: Circumtropical
