Spotted torpedo

Scientific name : Torpedo marmorata

Its disc is rather large, with smooth marbled skin. It usually lives in temperate waters, up to 20° C. It's nocturnal, and during the day it usually hides under the sand. As all torpedoes it can produce electricity to stun small fish or crustaceans, which it feeds on, or to defend itself from predators. It can create powerful electric discharges, up to 220 volts. The discharge system is created using a potential difference between the upper (positive) and lower (negative) discs. Water all around the torpedo and the prey act as a conductor, letting the current flow among the poles.
It can reach almost a metre in length.
