Spotted marbled shrimp

Scientific name : Saron sp.

Shrimp with a large, long, upward rostrum, and with typical hair tufts (cirri) starting from the rostrum and on the back. Other cirri tufts below the abdomen and on the claws (in the male longer than in the female).
Typical colour pattern of large round spots on the carapace, reddish with black and white edge lines. Abdomen is marbled. Legs and claws have a transverse light and dark brown bands. 4 cm. Many undescribed Saron species still exist, all very similar. The colour patter distinguish Saron sp. from Saron marmoratus. Saron neglectus is even smaller and less hairy.

Associated organisms
We observed often this species moving around the diadema sea urchins, without jumping on the urchin but ready to withdraw amongst the spines in case of danger.
