Six-banded angel fish

Scientific name : Pomacanthus sexstriatus


Large (46 cm) angel fish, brown colour, sides with a blue and light brown reticule and 6 dark bands, a white line behind the eye. Black juveniles with vertical blue and white lines. Normally in pairs, it can give hybrid with Pomacanthus xanthometopon. Possible confusion with Pomacanthus semicirculatus, but clearly distinguished by the light and dark banding. Juveniles siimlar to Pomacanthus xanthometopon, but with taller dorsal and anal fins.

Associated organisms
Common in areas rich with corals and sponges.


Habitat: Back reef, Deep reef, Lagoon

Distribution: Western Pacific
