Sea pen shrimp
Scientific name : Dasycaris symbiotes
Tiny commensal shrimp, short, spiny, often with lifted tail. Variable colour to match the host (a sea pen). 1,5 cm.
The spiny appearence distinguish Dasycaris from other commensal shrimps. Distinguished from D. ceratops, another sea pen commensal, for the head and rostrum teeth: 6 in D. symbiotes, 5 in D. ceratops that have also a compressed carapace forming a dorsal crest.
Associated organisms Always associated with sea pens of the genus Pteroeides.
