Sea hare
Scientific name : Stylocheilus striatus
Small sea hare, common but difficult to see. Well camouflaged, can have skin filaments mimicking the algae among which it lives. Identified by longitudinal darker lines and scattered blue spots. 4 cm.
Sea hares are not clearly identified, many share a cryptic green-brown colour pattern. This species can look differently, with or without skin filaments. Easly identified by the blue spots.
Often confused with Stylocheilus longicauda, that has uniform background colour, longer tail, and is usually found on drifting object in open sea.
Associated organisms Hides amongst algae, it often feeds on filamented blue-green algae. Preyed by the nudibranch Gymnodoris ceylonica.
