Scribbled file fish

Scientific name : Aluterus scriptus

Probably the better known file fish, large (over 1 m long), elongated and compressed, with long ragged tail and a typical blue decoration on sides. It feeds on sessile invertebrates. Clearly distinguishable from Aluterus monoceros because of the blue drawings. When approached, usually it stands still, often head down, trying to go unnoticed among the benthic organisms.

Habitat: Back reef, Deep reef, Lagoon, Reef external slope, Reef front

Distribution: Circumtropical
