Scaly chromis

Scientific name : Chromis lepidolepis


Small grey chromis. The dorsal fin has black edge, with white tip on each spiny rays. Both lobes of the tail are black tipped. White eye with black vertical bar. 8 cm. This is part of a group of small chromis species, sometimes difficult to identify. The group includes (amongst the species described here) Chromis atripes, Chromis amboinensis, C. lepidolepis, Chromis elerae, Chromis ternatensis, Chromis weberi. A good system to distinguish between them, is to look carefully at the spots on the fins and at the eye's colour.


Habitat: Lagoon, Reef external slope

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
