Ringtailed cardinalfish

Scientific name : Apogon aureus


Long about 14,5 cm, this fish has a background orange-bronze, iridescent shade, with a black bar on the caudal peduncle (the reason of its name) and a black stripe with blue borders on the snout, from its mouth to the eye.
It lives in holes in rocks or under ledges in shallow waters; it can form mixed aggregations with Apogon apogonoides in Summer and Autumn, but leaves them for the rest of the year.


Habitat: Back reef, Lagoon, Mud

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
