Rhizostome jellyfish

Scientific name : Rhizostoma pulmo


Semi-spherical umbrella, purple in colour, with fringed edge. The manubrium is well developed, ed it is divided in eight squat arms, with a spongy portion. This species lacks of marginal tentacles. It is a strong species, slightly blue or milky white in colour. It may reach a maximum diameter of forty centimetres and a length of one meter.
Less gregarious of other species, but it can be found in large aggregations anyway. It is the largest Mediterranean jellyfish. It is not poisoning for humans.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Open sea, Sea

Distribution: East Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea
