Redfin butterflyfish

Scientific name : Chaetodon trifasciatus


Medium size butterflyfish (15 cm), oval shape, faded horizontal lines, anal fin ending in a flashy orange band.
C. trifasciatus was considered until recently an Indo-Pacific species. Recently it has been divided into 2 species, the Pacific species receivede the name of Chaetodon lunulatus, with faded anal fin. Another sister species, Chaetodon austriacus, with black fins, lives in the Red Sea.
It is an obligate corallivorous.
