Randall's shrimp goby

Scientific name : Alpheus randalli


Beautiful shrimp, with red and white blotches and lines on body and claws, yellow legs. 3 cm. A. randalli belongs to the A. brevirostris species complex, including Alpheus djeddensis, Alpheus rubromaculatus, Alpheus sp. (species included in this website). All species are quite similar, the flamboyant colour of this species are very distinctive.

Associated organisms
This species lives in symbiosis with few goby species. The shrimp, almost blind, digs a large burrow and hosts the goby. In change the fish alerts it of potential predators approaching.
A. randalli
lives in association with many different goby species: Amblyeleotri steinitzi, Stenogobiops nematodes, Tomyiamichthys omi, Flabelligobius spp. amongs the others.
