Pyramid butterfly fish

Scientific name : Hemitaurichthys polylepis


Medium size (18 cm) butterfly fish, square shape, brown head, white body with three triangular orange areas.
Living along the external reef, usually along vertical walls affected by moderately strong current, in large schools swimming in midwater. It is a plankton feeder. Very common in our area, is the more abundant butterfly fish in Bunaken.
Colour pattern very typical. In the Indian Ocean the species Hemitaurichthys zoster, white and black, lives.

Distribution: Pacific Ocean
