Porous sea star
Scientific name : Fromia milleporella
Small sea star with 5 triangular arms, flattened shape. The colour is uniform red with large scattered pores. Red Sea specimens have white or light blue round spots. 7 cm diameter.
Encountered in lagoon, back reef and reef front.
Different Fromia species are identified by the plates on the dirsal side. Fromia monilis has larger tubercles at the margins, smaller in the center of the arms; Fromia nodosa is similar but with a central row of large tubercles on each arm; Fromia indica has plates covering all the surface, Fromia milleporella has no plates.
