Phyllidia varicosa

Scientific name : Phyllidia varicosa

Large and common species. It has hard back, no gills, tubercles arranged in longitudinal ridges. Colour is black between the ridges, blue on the ridges, yellow at the rhynophores and tubercles tip. 12 cm.
It has a longitudinal black line along the underside of the foot. Common along the external reef. It produces a toxin that, secreted through the skin, keeps the predators (fish, crustaceans) away.

Similar to Phyllidia coelestis. In the latter, the longitudinal crests make a Y shape. Also the black line on the underside of the foot in P. varicosa is a diagnostic.
