Philinopsis cyanea

Scientific name : Philinopsis cyanea


Headshield slug with a truncated body, straight head profile, rounded tails, high head shield. Brown-yellow-orange spotted colour pattern, very variable. Constant blue margin. 5 cm. Predator of other opisthobranchs, in particular of the cephalaspidea Bulla e Haminoea.
The darker specimens could be confused with Philinopsis gardineri. It is distinguished by the high head shield and by the truncated head profile. The genus Philinopsis has no radula, therefore the preys are swallowed.


Habitat: Lagoon, Sand

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific
