Pennant banner fish

Scientific name : Heniochus chrysostomus


Medium size (18 cm) butterfly fish, long and pennant first rays of dorsal fin. Three diagonal black bands, the first one covers the eye, the second reaches the first dorsal fin rays. Elongate, yellow snout.
Living on back reef, reef front or along external reef. Usually in pairs, feeds on corals. Active during the night, during daytime hovers next to crevices, or hiding amongst the large barrel or elephant ear sponges.
Identifiable from other Heniochus for the yellow snout and the pennant dorsal fin.

Associated organisms
It likes to hide into large sponges.
