Papua toby

Scientific name : Canthigaster papua


Small brown toby finely peppered with blue spots, that turn into longitudinal lines on back. A prominent false eye below the dorsal fin. Orange snout and tail. 10 cm. Very similar to Canthigaster solandri, distinguished by the longitudinal blue lines, orange snout and tail. Compared with Canthigaster janthinopera and C. amboinensis it has finer spots extended to the tail. Compared with Canthigaster compressa it has darker colour and even larger spots.


Habitat: Deep reef, Reef external slope

Distribution: Western Pacific
