Papua scorpion fish

Scientific name : Scorpaenopsis papuensis

Scorpion fish with large pectoral fins, long snout (the distance between eye and snout sensibly longer than the eye diameter), many skin flaps and tentacles. The colour can vary, matching the background. Dark blotch in the rear of the spiny dorsal fin. 20 cm. Many Scorpaenopsis species exixts, very similar among them. Sometimes the differences are features impossible to observe in the environment (like the number of pectoral fin's rays). S. papuensis can be identified from Scorpaenopsis oxycephala and Scorpaenopsis venosa by the dark blotch in the rear part of the spiny dorsal fin.
