Painted spiny lobster

Scientific name : Panulirus versicolor


Like all spiny lobsters it has no claws, 2 spiny rostra over the eyes, and it has 2 pairs of large antennae, the first double ended, the second hard and spiny, usually both white. Carapace is white, black and pink, with horizontal bads and a reticule. Abdomen is green with transverse white and black bands. Green tail, legs are dark brown with longitudinal white lines. 40 cm
Commonly encountered along external reef, deep reef and caves. At night it leaves the shelters, while during the day normally only the antennae are exposed.
Colour pattern is unique amongst spiny lobsters.
