Orange face butterflyfish

Scientific name : Chaetodon larvatus


Small butterflyfish (12 cm), with a triangular shape (high and short), grey body with yellow lines, black dorsal fin and tail, orange head. Very close to Chaetodon triangulum of the Indian Ocean and to Chaetodon baronessa of Pacific Ocean, it is clearly distinguished by the orange face. As the sister species is an obligate coral feeder, feeding almost exclusively on Acropora polyps.
