Orange banded coral fish

Scientific name : Coradion chrysozonus


Small butterfly fish (15 cm), white with 4 brown-orange vertical bands. Second and third bands are connected at the lower end, the third is larger. Black spot on dorsal fin. Living along the external reef, in areas with rubble and mud, with fewer hard coral. It feeds on sponges.
Coradion altivelis has no black spots and has second and third band of the same size. Coradion melanopus has two spots, one also on anal fin.

Associated organisms
With large Porifera, its food.


Habitat: Reef external slope, Sand

Distribution: Western Pacific
