Multibarred angel fish

Scientific name : Centropyge multifasciatus

Small angel fish with a white and dark brown banded colour pattern. A yellow line, more or less visible, in the middle of the white bands. Deep body, 11 cm. Common along the external reef and deep reef, in small caves or cracks, where it looks for shelter when observed. Very secretive. The deep and short body shape make it very similar to a butterfly fish. Possible confusion with Chaetodon octofasciatus, apart from the greater number of bands the opercular spine is distinctive.
It is difficult to observe it for long time, therefore often the doubt exist of a butterfly fish sighting. A clue is the behaviour: the angel fish is shy, always looks for shelter in holes or cracks, usually the butterfly fish can be easily approached.
