Moon jellyfish

Scientific name : Aurelia aurita


Jellyfish with a flattened umbrella, easily recognizable by a transparent or whitish body with four evident purple circles, the gonads, in the middle of the umbrella.
The manubrium is short; the tentacles are placed along the edge of the umbrella, and they are very short, but the jellyfish is harmless for humans.
It may reach a maximum diameter of forty centimetres.
The jellyfish grows from small round polyps, white in colour, with a large number of thin tentacles.
The jellyfish feeds on small fishes, while the polyp feed on small crustaceans.
