Meyer's butterfly fish

Scientific name : Chaetodon meyeri

Medium size butterfly fish (18 cm), white-grey with few bold black diagonal stripes. Black eye band.
More common on the reef front, where it feeds only on living coral tissues. As corallivorous is not very demanding: its large and blunt snout is fit for feeding on many species of hard coral.
The bold black lines are a good diagnostic character to distinguish Chaetodon meyeri from the other black and white species. It slightly resembles Chaetodon ornatissimus, but the colour difference is obvious.
As obligate corallivorous it is used as indicator of reef's health.

Associated organisms
Living in areas with a rich hard coral (Scleractinia) cover. Juveniles are solitary and always associated with branching corals.
