Long spine wasp fish

Scientific name : Paracentropogon longispinus


Laterally compressed body, high dorsal fin deeply incised among the spiny rays, starting on the head, over the eye. Almost vertical head profile, small mouth. Mottled brown and white colour, more or less dark. A white spot on the side and a white stripe on nape can be present. 10 cm.
Distinguished from Ablabys taenianotus and Ablabys macracanthus by the deeply incised dorsal fin.
Possible confusion also with the leaf scorpion fish Taenianotus triacanthus, at least in its brown colour form, but the latter has larger head and mouth (typical of scorpion fishes).


Habitat: Coastal bay, Sand

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific
