Little sea moth, little dragonfish

Scientific name : Eurypegasus draconis

Pegasid up to 8 cm long, variable colour but almost always brown, reticulated for camouflage on sandy bottoms.
Pectoral fins expanded laterally, with blue-purple areas especially in males (visible only when fins are completely expanded). Long rostrum, sometimes bent, sometimes black in larger animals (usually males). When resting, it can be partially buried in the sand. It feeds on small crustaceans. In our area it is possible to find another species of the same family, Pegasus volitans, larger, more elongate and thinner.
Normally encountered in pairs, crawling in the typical way, like large insects, using the ventral fins to walk.
