Lined butterfly fish

Scientific name : Chaetodon lineolatus


Large butterfly fish, up to 30 cm long. White with vertical black lines, black band on eye with a white spot on nape. Yellow fins, back part of body black and yellow.
Common on back reef, reef front and external reef. Feeds primarily on corals and anemones, also of other invertebrates and algae. Usually in pairs.
It is the largest Chaetodon. Can be confused with C. oxycephalus, different for the shape of the eye band: in C. lineolatus the band is expanded on nape, with a white spot in the middle; in Chaetodon oxycephalus the band is interrupted, with a black spot on nape.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific, Red sea
