Lagoon damsel

Scientific name : Hemiglyphydodon plagiometapon


Large and robust damsel, with pointed snout, brown colour only slightly lighter toward the head. The juvenile is yellow with grey head and back. 22 cm. Found in lagoon, close to branching coral colonies with the basis dead and covered with filamentous algae. As a territorial herbivorous, it cultivate its food algae by wedding out undesirable species and guarding against other herbivorous fishes. Similar to other dark brown or blackish large damsels (Pomacentrus brachialis, Neogliphydodon melas, N. crossi), is identified by the lighter head (not always present) and the pointed snout.
