Jellyfish crab

Scientific name : Ethusa sp.


Symilar to a decorator crab, with rounded carapace and long legs, uses to carry on its back a mobile animal, usually a benthic jellyfish (Cassiopea andromeda), holding it steadily with the 3rd and 4th pairs of legs. Teardrop shaped eyes on long peduncles. Beige-pink colour, carapace lenght 5 cm. Very similar to Dorippe frascone, it is mainly distinguished by the different associated animal.

Associated organisms
Uses to carry on its back a jellyfish, held with the 3rd and 4th pairs of legs (only two pairs of legs are used to walk). Often the benthic upside-down jellyfish Cassiopea andromeda are used.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Sand

Distribution: Indonesia
