Iridescent cardinalfish

Scientific name : Apogon kallopterus


This reddish fish (maximum length: 15,0 cm) shows a long brown stripe along its sides, from snout to caudal peduncle, in which it might fade, and a dark spot at the base of the caudal fin.
It can be seen in lagoons in patch and seaward reefs up to a maximun depth of 45 mt. It feeds at night on small benthic and free-swimming crustaceans.


Habitat: Back reef, Lagoon, Reef flat, Reef front

Distribution: Indo-Pacific, Red sea
