Indian sea star
Scientific name : Fromia indica
Small sea star with 5 triangular arms, completely covered with pink plates, turning red at the arm tip. The lines between the plates are black. 8 cm diameter.
Encountered in the back reef and reef front.
Different Fromia species are identified by the plates on the dorsal side. Fromia monilis has larger tubercles at the margins, smaller in the center of the arms; Fromia nodosa is similar but with a central row of large tubercles on each arm; Fromia indica has plates covering all the surface; Fromia milleporella has no plates.
