Humpback prawn
Scientific name : Metapenaeopsis lamellata
Medium size prawn, red colour, large blue-green eyes, short rostrum (it does not extend over the eyes. Females up to 10 cm, males to 6.
Encountered occasionally by divers during the night, on sandy bottoms, in bay but also on deep reef. It lives at a maximum depth of 200 m. Occasionally taken by trawls, but its commercial interest is very limited.
The prominent hump and the strong carapace distinguish this from other Metapeneopsis species encountered in shallow environments.
