Honshu pipefish

Scientific name : Doryramphus japonicus


Small pipe fish (max 8 cm), usually swimming close to large overhanging rocks or crevices. Typical colour pattern, with longitudinal blu and orange lines, rounded black tail with white border and orange spots.
Many species of the same genus very similar, the distinctive charachter is the tail's colour pattern.

Associated organisms
It is an active cleaner fish, feeding on parassites collected on other fish skin. Often share a crevice with a moray eel, or hides amongst the spines of Diadema setosum sea urchins, or next to anemones (in a photos is next to Heteractis aurora).


Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Mud

Distribution: Western Pacific
