Hermit crab anemone

Scientific name : Calliactis miriam

Small anemone, with a robust column. Crown of short tentacles, mottled brown colour. The colour pattern of the basal part of the column is distinctive. Heigh 1-4 cm.
The brown banded tentacles are distinctive toward the species Verrillactis paguri, with white tentacles, and that settles inside the shell.

Associated organisms
Mutualistic symbiosis with hermit crabs of the genera Dardanus and Eupagurus. The crab attach the anemone on its shell, and takes advantage of the stinging cells protection. The anemone benefit is probably the greater possibility to find food, being transported. When the crab changes shell, it transfer the anemones on the new one.
