Hearth urchin
Scientific name : Maretia planulata
Whitish irregular urchin, with blotches of brown pygment at the edge. Also the flower like drawing formed by the pores of the aquiferous system is brown. A series of elongate spines, quite ruffled, are directed backward. 6 cm.
Normally buried in the sand during the day, in bay and lagoon. Active at night, when it crawls quickly moving the spines. If disturbed, it buries itself.
Identified from Echinoneus cyclostomus by the long spines, from Eurypatagus ovalis by the colour.
