Freckled frogfish

Scientific name : Antennarius coccineus

Small frog fish, very variable in colour: from white to yellow, orange, red, brown or black. Often it has scattered spots. Second dorsal spine with no membrane. Very short tail base, the tail may have vertical stripes. 12 cm.
Very cryptic, often hides amongst the hard coral branches.
Confusion possible with the other small frog fishes (Antennarius nummifer, Antennarius randalli). The tail, almost without tail base is distinctive. Compared with the former, it lacks the dark spot at the basis of the dorsal fin (but other spots may confound). Compared with the second, the shape of the dorsal fin is different, with a third spine well distinct from the soft part.
