Fingerprint toby

Scientific name : Canthigaster compressa


Brown toby, darker colour on the back, fading on the sides. Decorated with fine points and circular lines, recalling a fingerprint. A false eye below dorsal fin. 12 cm. Distinguished from the other pointed species (see for example Canthigaster papua)by the finer spots and lines. The colour and the fine spots distinguish this also from Canthigaster epilampra and Canthigaster bennetti, similar for the darker back.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Sand

Distribution: Western Pacific
