Elbow crab

Scientific name : Parthenopidae sp.


Small crab whose main features are: long claws, lighter front part of the carapace, prominent rostrum giving the carapace a pentagonal shape. Carapace lenght 2 cm.

Probably an undescribed species, also for the behaviour it recalls Harrovia elegans. The main difference is that the latter has 2 frontal spines.

Associated organisms
Species occasionally associated with the sea urchin Echinothrix calamaris. We observed the crab hiding into the urchin's anus. Can also be observed in association with crinoids.


Habitat: Reef external slope

Distribution: Indonesia, North Sulawesi
